1 Decembrie este ziua nationala a Romaniei. La aceasta sarbatoare biserica Betezda a fost prezenta, unde corul biserici a cantat colinde crestine romanesti si alte cantari

Festivitatea a inceput cu intonarea imnului Romaniei care a fost acompaniata de fanfara biserici Betezda, totodata au fost intonat si imnul american si alte cantari crestine romanesti.

Din partea biserici Betezda pastorul Simi Timbuc a avut mesajul seri despre unitate si iubirea de semeni, a fost un mesaj foarte bun

Cei mai multi dintre noi suntem familiari cu relatarea traditionala a Zilei Recunostintei (Thanksgiving Day) cand guvernatorul William Bradford, din Plymouth Rock a proclamat o zi a Multumirii pentru a celebra bogata recolta culeasa cu ajutorul unor prieteni indieni si al doilea an de supravietuire in Lumea Noua (New World). Totusi multi dintre noi neglijam faptul ca Ziua Multumirii in America a fost celebrata in Virginia cu 11 ani mai devreme. Aceasta Zi a Multumirii nu a fost un ospat. In iarna anului 1610 in Jamestown, Virginia din 409 colonisti au ramas numai 60. Supravietuitorii se rugau pentru ajutor fara sa stie cand sau cum va veni. Cand a sosit o corabie cu alimente din Anglia au sperat ca acela le era ajutorul. Dar de fapt s-a adaugat inca 35 persoane la masa lor fiindca numai ei au reusit sa se salveze. Apoi a sosit o alta corabie cu alimente si alte resurse. Atunci, desi trecusera prin incercari foarte grele s-au adunat impreuna si au proclama o zi de multumire si recunostinta inaintea lui Dumnezeu. Ei au venit cu rugaciuni de lauda si multumire adresate lui Dumnezeu pentru toata purtarea lui de grija. Asa cum ei spuneau, si noi avem atat de multe motive pentru care sa fim multumitori si recunoscatori lui Dumnezeu.

Cuvantul lui Dumnezeu, pe care il cunoastem bine ne arata prin Pavel: Vorbiţi între voi cu psalmi, cu cîntări de laudă şi cu cîntări duhovniceşti, şi cîntaţi şi aduceţi din toată inima laudă Domnului.  (20)  Mulţămiţi totdeauna lui Dumnezeu Tatăl, pentru toate lucrurile, în Numele Domnului nostru Isus Hristos (Efes. 5:19-20). In 1 Tes. 5:16-18, suntem incurajati: Bucuraţi-vă întotdeauna.  (17)  Rugaţi-vă neîncetat.  (18)  Mulţămiţi lui Dumnezeu pentru toate lucrurile; căci aceasta este voia lui Dumnezeu, în Hristos Isus, cu privire la voi.

Accentul lui Pavel este pe LAUDA, MULTUMIRI. Alti termini folositi sunt, INTOTDEAUNA, NEINCETAT, TOATE LUCRURILE. Pentru unii pare ca Pavel vorbeste despre un serviciu divin. Nu. El vorbeste despre o atitudine continua, constanta a credinciosului crestin-o atitudine a inimii. Cum se poate ajunge la aceasta atitudine? Ce piedici sunt in calea ei?

Uneori si noi nu ne dam seama cat de binecuvantati suntem, sau cat de recunoscatori ar trebui sa fim pana nu suntem amenintati sa pierdem ceea ce avem-fie bunuri materiale, persoane dragi, sau sanatatea noastra. De asemenea sunt cateva atitudini care impiedica pe oameni sa fie recunoscatori. Doresc sa amintesc doar trei atitudini care fura credinciosilor sentimental de gratitudine:

1. Mandria personala. Aceasta atitudine zice: ,,Nimeni nu mi-a dat nimic. Eu am muncit din greu pentru tot ce am. Ani de zile am invatat, am muncit si acum sunt rasplatit.” Cu o astfel de atitudine, cineva simte ca nu are de multumit decat lui/ei insusi/insasi.
2. Spiritul critic sau de cartire. Un astfel de spirit rapeste multumirea. Cine are acest spirit intotdeauna va gasi ceva pentru care este nemultumit, se plange, murmura sau carteste.
3. Atitudina de indiferenta, de asemenea opreste pe cineva in a fi multumitor. Daca soarele ar rasari doar la cateva luni fiecare am astepta cu nerabdare rasaritul lui. Dar faptul ca el apare zilnic este ceva obisnuit. Astfel, adeseori oamenii uita sa multumeasca pentru fiecare rasarit de soare. Fiecare rasarit ne vorbeste de harul si indurarea zilnica a lui Dumnezeu pentru fiecare dintre noi. Ne aducem aminte cum evreii in pustie au plans ca n-au mancare. Dumnezeu le-a trimis mana cereasca in fiecare zi cu exceptia sambetei (sabat). Ei vedeau si traiau un miracol in fiecare zi. Totusi ajung sa fie nemultumiti si sa carteasca. Datorita mandriei, spiritului de critica si indiferentei oamenii (credinciosii) nu sunt gata sa multumeasca Domnului cu adevarat. Doamne pazeste-ne de astfel de atitudini.

Cum putem sa aratam un spirit de multumire Domnului? Atunci cand:

1. Petrecem timp zilnic cu Dumnezeu (rugaciune, Scriptura) nu doar cateva ore duminica;
2. Slujim Domnului prin biserica Sa (pentru noi Betezda);
3. Iertam pe cei care ne gresesc, dupa cum si noi am fost iertati de Domnul;
4. Marturisim Mantuirea Domnului la altii;
5. Ajutam pe cei in nevoie si suferinzi;
6. Aducem Domnului cantari de lauda cu entuziasm si pasiune din inima;
7. Avem si o lista cu multumiri, asa cum avem o lista de rugaciune pentru ,,cauze;” aratam o atitudine de multumire si recunostinta inaintea Domnului.

In incheire ma rog ca fiecare din noi sa cultivam in gradina sufletului nostru aceasta atitudine a multumirii si recunostintei dupa cum si psalmistul se angajeaza: ,,Voi [multumi] binecuvînta pe Domnul în orice vreme; lauda Lui va fi totdeauna în gura mea.” Ps. 34:1.

Va anuntam cu bucurie ca Biserica Betezda din Troy, Michigan gazduieste cea de-a 4-a Conferinta anuala de Evanghelizare si Misiune .

Anul acesta tema este : “Strategii pentru Evanghelizare si Misiune“.

Suntem multumitori lui Dumnezeu pentru oportunitatea de  a sluji, de a ne inchina si pentru  ca avem posibilitatea de a ne echipa pentru “Marele Seceris”. Haideti sa raspundem chemarii facute de Dumnezeu de a “rascumpara vremea” si a face tot ce depinde de noi in a implini Porunca Domnului Isus Hristos de a merge cu Evanghelia la toti oamenii. In sensul acesta am organizat aceasta Conferinta care va avea loc la Biserica Betezda din Troy  dupa cum urmeaza:

• joi 6 noiembrie, incepand de la ora 7:00pm,
• vineri 7 noiembrie, incepand de la ora 7:00pm,
• sambata 8 noiembrie, incepand de la ora 9:00am (vom servi micul dejun impreuna)
• duminica 9 noiembrie , incepand de la ora 9:00am si dupamasa de la ora 6:00pm (combinat cu Ziua Internationala de Rugaciune pentru Biserica Persecutata)

If you’ve been in church circles at all, you may be familiar with the words, “to obey is better than sacrifice.”  They’re taken from a passage in 1 Samuel 15 where one of God’s prophets has to chastise king Saul for being well intentioned in doing something for God, but completely disregarding the instruction he received against that specific action!  The lesson learned in this passage seems to be obvious: to obey God’s purposes for our lives is the most important thing you can set your heart on.  When God tells you something, do it—even if you have something else in mind that you may consider of great value for him.  The key to not making the same mistake as Saul is trusting that God knows what he wants better than you do! (Sounds like common sense doesn’t it?)

In that passage we’re warned that doing things for God doesn’t make up for what we’re doing wrong.  Going to church on weekends, singing in choir, being active in your community…even reading your Bible and praying doesn’t count for anything when there are areas of our lives we’re not handing over to God.

Well, there’s something else that we’re especially prone to because of the culture we live in.  We hear about it all the time, and yet somehow we manage to repeat the same mistake time after time!  Our mortal sin: falling prey to the busyness of our lives.  By now you’ve probably heard enough about how tech-savvy we are and how technology has the potential to ruin the beautiful things in life.  I’m sure you don’t need to be reminded about us being a fast-food, fast-paced, “microwave” society—others have ranted on about this for quite some time now.  But one thing we all need to be reminded of is that from an eternal perspective, obedience is better than convenience.  Our culture advises us to obey our cravings, ambitions, drives, (Sprite even tells us to obey our thirst!) but obeying God is the only way you can’t go wrong.  Ephesians 1:11 assures us that he has a special will and purpose for our lives.  Now the ball is in our court; are we going to let God have his way in us by clearing up the mess we call our “schedules?”  The irony of convenience is that when we can do something quicker and easier, we tend to stock-pile our lives with even more tasks.  And all along the purpose of technology is supposed to be the freeing up of our time.

It’s time we realize that obedience to God is more valuable than convenience.  It’s time we turn our cell phones off during the moments we consider sacred.  It’s time our social networks take a backseat to our communion with God.  It’s time we get out into nature and be reminded of our creator’s greatness.  It’s time we decide that what’s important takes priority over what seems to be urgent.  “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:17 (TNIV)  Don’t let yourself be driven by convenience for one moment longer!

Din start credem ca halloweenul nu trebuie respectat. Dar va rog sa cititi.

Knock, Knock, Knock….. You open the door and there stands one or more children standing in some sort of costume, highly excited and all screaming at the top of their lungs….“TRICK or TREAT”, with out knowing the meaning of what they are saying or doing.

As an adult, do you know what Halloween represents? Most people are ignorant of what Halloween is all about and for that matter don’t care. I grew up trick or treating like most kids in America and never knew what it was all about. We even had a haunted house in the attic of the little country CHURCH I attended!!!! I was like most kids in the fact that all I wanted to do is get as much candy as I could and would do what I had to do to get it!! Including fighting with my brothers and sisters to be the first at the door….Every year I was the devil. I had the most evil, horrible, grotesque, rubber mask that was ever made. I had a pitchfork and my precious mother even sewed me a long pointed tail on my red suit.

We all have stories to tell of Halloween, but do you really know what it is all about?? If all you know of it is what I have described above, you may want to read a little further and find out more info about what you are celebrating. Now if you are a pagan you know exactly what it is, if a Christian you are involved in something God forbids and if you just a “good ole boy or girl” you don’t care.

Where did it begin?

It began over 2000 yrs ago with people known as the Celtics. They lived in what is today England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This was also the beginning of the Celtic new year, a time to give thanks to the sun god for the harvest.

What is it all about?

Halloween, All saints day, All hallows eve or All souls day is a festival. It was held to honor the Samhain the so called “lord of death”. It was a Druidical belief that on the eve of this festival Samhain, lord of death, called together the wicked spirits that within the past 12 months had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals.

It was a pagan belief that on one night of the year the souls of the dead return to their original homes, there to be entertained with food. If food and shelter were not provided, these evil spirits would cast spells and cause havoc toward those failing to fulfill their requests.

Sacrifices were offered on this night to the dead spirits because it was thought they visited their earthly dwellings and former friends.

There was a prevailing belief among all nations that at death the souls of the good men were taken possession of by good spirits and carried to paradise; but the souls of the wicked men were left to wonder in the space between the earth and the moon, or consigned to the unseen world. These wandering spirits were in the habit of haunting the living…But there were means by which ghosts might be exorcised.

To exorcise these ghosts, that is to free yourself from their evil sway, you would have to set out food and provide shelter for them during the night. If they were satisfied with your offerings, they would leave you in peace. If not, they were believed to cast an evil spell on you.

In modern day Satanism and Witchcraft covens, this is the day when Satan himself comes to “fellowship” with his followers. Many changes have occurred over the centuries, but one thing ha stayed the same, the practice of giving an “offering” has stayed the same. Oh we do it under the name of fun but what is the real meaning? Is it still the same as in the old days? I say the answer is YES.

The Christian Connection

The celebration in the Roman Catholic Church, which was later to merge with Samhain, was known as All Saints’ Day. All Saints’ Day originated in the 7th century when the Pantheon at Rome was wrested from the barbarians, made into a cathedral, and renamed the Church of the Blessed Virgin and All Martyrs. Thus, from honoring “all gods” (which is the meaning of the Greek word “pantheon”) the Pantheon became the center for glorifying all saints.

This day that honored all the “hallowed” saints was first observed on the evening of May 13, and was known as the All hallows festival. The day was officially authorized in 835 by Pope Gregory IV after it was moved to November 1 to coincide with Samhain. It began on the evening of October 31, which was called All Hallows Eve.

Thus, without forcing the pagans to drop their pagan practices and accept Christianity, the Roman Catholic church merely made room to accommodate the barbarians.
Just as it confiscated the pagan Pantheon for its own uses, this church incorporated the customs of Samhain to further its mission to convert the known world to Catholicism.
The two celebrations made strange bedfellows: one in respect of evil spirits, the other honoring “saints.”

Nevertheless, the joining of the two celebrations produced a hybrid of beliefs about what was supposed to happen in the spirit world. Souls in purgatory appeared as witches and toads to persons who had wronged them. Halloween fires took on a new meaning and now were used to comfort souls in purgatory as people prayed while holding burning straw in the air.

Even the idea of trick-or-treating by evil spirits took on an acceptable church flavor: costumed children went around on All Souls Day offering to fast for the departed souls in return for money or an offering.As the Celts converted to the new religion, they did not forget their stories of the dead traveling to the afterworld on Halloween. Rather, exhibitions of this night became more evil and the observance adopted even more malicious overtones. To be continued…

Dragi frati si surori va invit azi sa privim din nou la cuvintele Domnului Isus gasite in Mat 5:7  ,,Ferice de cei milostivi, căci ei vor avea parte de milă!” La fel ca si in fericirile rostite mai inainte si aceasta este in contrast cu modul de gandire al lumii de atunci si de azi. Cei care am fost duminica trecuta seara (12 oct.) ne aducem aminte de cuvantul Domnului ce a fost predicat din Galateni 6:2, ,,Purtaţi-vă sarcinile unii altora, şi veţi împlini astfel Legea lui Hristos.”  Fratele Liviu care a predicat ne-a invatat despre nevoia de a ajuta la ducerea sarcinilor semenilor la nivel spiritual, emotional, si material.  Pentru aceasta este nevoie de a arata mila fata de semenul nostru (oricine ar putea fi el).

Doresc sa privim intai la ce inseamna a fi milostiv. In contextul iudaic termenul mila, avea cel putin doua semnificatii: iertarea unei greseli/rani si ajutorarea. Cred ca Domnul Isus la folosit in ambele sensuri. Daca privim la termenul folosit in Latina miseriacordis, este un termen compus: miserans: mila si cor: inima; sau miseria cordis, durerea inimii. De aceea unii cercetatori inteleg ca termenul arata:

1.    cineva in suferinta, anxietate, nefericit
2.    dispozitie sufleteasca (a inimii) afectata de vederea unei astfel de situatii.

Termenul in Noul Testament este elehemon din eleos, derivat din ebraicul chil, care inseamna a fi in durere ca o femeie la nastere. Un alt termen ebraic este galal: a striga de durere, sau a te lamenta; fiindca o persoana milostiva empatizeaza, simte cu durerea semenului sau, plange impreuna cu el. In Evanghelii vedem pe Domnul Isus in mai multe situatii in care este miscat de situatia dureroasa a semenilor:  ,,Atunci au venit la El multe noroade, avînd cu ele şchiopi, orbi, muţi, ciungi, şi mulţi alţi bolnavi I-au pus la picioarele Lui, şi El i-a tămăduit;  (31)  aşa că noroadele se mirau, cînd au văzut că muţii vorbesc, ciungii se însănătoşează, şchopii umblă şi orbii văd; şi slăveau pe Dumnezeul lui Israel.  (32)  Isus a chemat pe ucenicii Săi, şi le-a zis: „Mi-este milă de gloata aceasta;[miscat de mila, n. red.] căci iată că de trei zile aşteaptă lîngă Mine, şi n’au ce mînca. Nu vreau să le dau drumul flămînzi, ca nu cumva să leşine de foame pe drum.” (Mat 15.:30-32). Un alt exemplu il gasim in Luca 19:41-42, ,,Cînd S’a apropiat de cetate şi a văzut-o, Isus a plîns pentru ea,  (42)  şi a zis: „Dacă ai fi cunoscut şi tu, măcar în această zi, lucrurile, cari puteau să-ţi dea pacea! Dar acum, ele sînt ascunse de ochii tăi.”
Dumnezeu in Vechiul Testamen se prezinta pe Sine lui Moise ca fiind: „Domnul, Dumnezeu este un Dumnezeu plin de îndurare şi milostiv, încet la mînie, plin de bunătate şi credincioşie… (Exod 34:6); Neemia declara: ,,Dar, în marea Ta îndurare, nu i-ai nimicit, şi nu i-ai părăsit, căci Tu eşti un Dumnezeu milostiv şi îndurător. (Neemia 9:31); iar psalmistul David deasemenea ne spune: ,,Domnul este îndurător şi milostiv, îndelung răbdător si bogat în bunătate” (Psalm. 103:8).

Desigur ca Dumnezeu si-a aratat mila Sa la nivelul cel mai inalt cand a ales sa rascumpere pe omul pacatos. Omul in pacat este in starea cea mai deplorabila posibila. Prin venirea in lumea noastra Domnul Isus manifesta cel mai profund nivel de mila posibila. De asemenea vedem mila Domnului Isus manifestata in multe situatii si aratata fata de oameni bolnavi, flamanzi, in diferite necazuri, si sub robia demonica. Este o milostivire care actioneaza. Nu ramane doar in stadiul de recunoastere a situatiei ci se implica in oferirea solutiei pentru iesirea din ea.

In al doilea rand putem observa binecuvantarea sau fericirea care urmeaza: ei vor avea parte de milă!” Fiecare dintre noi avem nevoie de mila lui Dumnezeu. Cineva spunea ca suntem mantuiti prin har, dar suntem sustinuti prin mila lui Dumnezeu. Avem nevoie de mila lui Dumnezeu cand cadem intr-o greseala, cand suntem intr-o nevoie spirituala, emotionala sau fizica. Cateva exemple din Sfanta Scriptura sunt revelatoare: ,,Omul milostiv va fi binecuvîntat, pentrucă dă săracului din pînea lui” (Prov 22:9); Ferice de cel ce îngrijeşte de cel sărac! Căci în ziua nenorocirii Domnul îl izbăveşte;  (2)  Domnul îl păzeşte şi-l ţine în viaţă. El este fericit pe pămînt, şi nu-l laşi la bunul plac al vrăjmaşilor lui.  (3)  Domnul îl sprijineşte, cînd este pe patul de suferinţă: îi uşurezi durerile în toate boalele lui.  (4)  Eu zic: „Doamne, ai milă de mine! Vindecă-mi sufletul! Căci am păcătuit împotriva Ta.” (Psalm 41:1-4). Apostolul Pavel citeaza pe Domnul Isus in FAp. 20:35 cand zice: ,,Este mai ferice să dai decît să primeşti.”

Domnul Isus ne indeamna: ,,Fiţi dar milostivi, cum şi Tatăl vostru este milostiv.”  Luca 6:36. El ne invata si cum sa facem milostenia la nivel individual: ,,Ci tu, cînd faci milostenie, să nu ştie stînga ta ce face dreapta,  pentruca milostenia ta să fie făcută în ascuns; şi Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îţi va răsplăti” (Mat 6:3-4). Atat in Vechiul Testament cat si in Noul Testament gasim exemple de oameni milostivi: Avraam, Iov, Tabita (FAp. 9:36) Corneliu (FAp. 10:2-4), etc. Dumnezeu raspunde la milostivirea noastra cu mila Sa (2 Sam. 22:26-27). Astfel, mila biruieste judecata.

In concluzie sa ne alaturam apostolului Pavel: ,,Să nu obosim în facerea binelui; căci la vremea potrivită, vom secera, dacă nu vom cădea de oboseală.  (10)  Aşa dar, cît avem prilej, să facem bine la toţi, şi mai ales fraţilor în credinţă.”(Gal 6:9-10). In pilda Samariteanului milostiv Domnul Isus incheie cu cuvintele provocatoare si practice: ,,Care dintr’aceşti trei ţi se pare că a dat dovadă că este aproapele celui ce căzuse între tîlhari?”  (37)  „Celce şi-a făcut milă cu el”, a răspuns învăţătorul Legii. „Du-te de fă şi tu la fel”, i-a zis Isus“ (Luca 10:36-37). Aceasta este o calitate in care ne asemanam cu Domnul Isus, cu Tatal ceresc.
